A Horse’s Wish

When I was three, my world was therapy. Physical, occupational, speech. That was my entire schedule. Then my doctor suggested equine-assisted therapy. My mom was doubtful, but we tried it anyway.

That first day, the volunteers laid me across a giant horse because I could not sit up yet. My mom looked unsure, but I turned my head and gave her the biggest smile. In that moment, everything changed. Riding was no longer just therapy. It became joy, freedom, and independence.

SIRE gave me confidence, purpose, and connection. But right now I cannot ride. Our lift is broken, and without it I cannot mount my horse. That has been heartbreaking.

So when SIRE asked me to contribute to the gala, I painted instead. I created a piece showing a horse at the edge of a cliff, looking up at stars shaped like a girl. The horse is making a wish, a wish for a rider, for purpose, for connection. Because SIRE is not only about what the riders gain. The horses grow too.

That painting sold at the gala covering half the cost of a new lift. We are halfway there. Now I am selling prints to help cover the rest, donating half the profit back to SIRE.

This painting is more than artwork to me. It is my hope on canvas. It is a reminder that even while I am waiting, my horse is waiting too. Please help me get on the horse again!!!

  1. Love this painting! And you should post a go fund me link for the rest of the lift cost

  2. SIRE is a wonderful organization. I used to volunteer as a leader and side walker at their Hockley facility, but had to stop when my arthritic knees got too bad. And shortly after that they closed that facility down, which was sad. Your painting is wonderful.
