“Nothing’s Holding Me Back” – Skiing 2025

Every single year, I go skiing, and I absolutely love it!!! Keystone has this incredible adaptive skiing center. This year was amazing!!!

I skied so well and could really feel how much I have improved. Of course, I fell a few times, but that is just part of skiing. Everybody falls!!! The important thing is getting back up and keeping going, which is exactly what I did.

This trip was even more special because of everything that happened with my wheelchair recently. If you have not read that story, you should check it out. It was definitely a setback, but I didn’t let it stop me from having the best time on the mountain.

One of the coolest things about skiing is how I communicate on the slopes. I use morse code with short and long blinks to communicate when I am without my computer. In fact, since I am fluent in morse code, I had my instructors wear a football wristband with an easy to follow morse code chart. Quarterbacks normally use these wristbands to quickly glance at plays during a game. Now I could chat it up with the instructors and even crack jokes with them.

Another fun part of the trip was my hair. I get undercut designs in my hair, and this time I got mountains shaved into the back of my head to match the vibe of the trip. It was such a cool way to bring the mountain energy with me wherever I went.

There is something about skiing that makes me feel so free. It reminds me that no matter what challenges come my way, I can keep moving forward. Adaptive skiing is such an incredible experience, and I am so glad I get to do it every year.

I already cannot wait for next year. Until then, I am holding onto how amazing this trip was. I hope you enjoy this video of me skiing. I had a blast!!!

🎶“Nothing’s Holding Me Back”🎶 by Megan Fry

I go skiing every year.
I’ve got cerebral palsy, yeah, but that doesn’t stop me.
I sit down when I ski, but I’m still moving fast.
I’m still flying. Still feeling free.

I don’t need words to speak.
I’ve got Morse code in my blinks.
Long blink, short blink.
I say what I need, loud and clear.
Even on the slopes.
Even without my computer.

You can’t shut me up just because I don’t talk.
You can’t count me out just because I fall.
Because I always get back up. Always.

I’ve got my team with me.
They’ve got my back and I’ve got theirs.
They’re amazing, every single one of them.
We’re out there together, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Nothing’s holding me back.
Not my body. Not the cold.
Not the stares. Not the doubt.
I’ve heard it all. I’m still here.

I might fall, but I get up.
I might sit, but I fly.
I might be nonverbal, but I never stop talking.

I’m not just skiing.
I’m showing up. I’m claiming space.
I’m doing what I love.
And yeah, there’s nothing holding me back.
