I Am Proud To Officially Announce That I Am A College Graduate And Ready To Roll Across The Stage!

I have some exciting news! I just finished my last semester of college! Yep, you’re looking at a college graduate with a degree in Digital Media! Honestly, it still feels surreal. I’ve been working toward this for so long, and now it’s actually happened, and I can’t believe I’m done. What’s crazy is that I started school on my third birthday, and here I am now a college grad! I’m beyond proud of myself for making it this far.

There isn’t a summer graduation ceremony, so I’ll be “walking” in the fall. Here’s a funny thought—it took me 25 years to “walk”! But in reality, I won’t be walking; I’ll be rolling across that stage! It’s such a full-circle moment for me, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone who’s been by my side.

Speaking of support, I need to take a moment to express just how thankful I am for everyone who’s helped me throughout my college journey. There’s no way I could have done this alone. My parents and my sister have been my rock, always encouraging me and pushing me to keep going, even when things got tough. My personal care assistants deserve a huge amount of credit as well. They’ve been with me every step of the way, ensuring I had everything I needed to succeed. Without them, reaching this goal would’ve been impossible.

My time at The Woodlands High School was also pivotal in getting me to this point. The teachers there didn’t just teach me—they really took me under their wings. I often stayed after school to get extra tutoring from them, and they always made sure I had everything I needed to apply to my dream college. Their dedication and belief in me were crucial in making this dream come true, and I’m so thankful for all the extra time and attention they gave me. They were a big part of my success story.

A special thank you also goes out to the therapists who’ve worked with me over the years. Their expertise and dedication helped me strengthen my skills and gain the independence I needed to succeed. They’ve been with me through thick and thin, and I’m forever grateful for their patience and care.

I also want to give a huge shout-out to all the professors who believed in me and supported my dreams. The faculty at the University of Houston really took me under their wings and made me feel like I belonged. Their guidance and encouragement meant the world to me, and I’ll always be grateful for the way they helped me grow, not just as a student, but as a person.

My disability counselor at the university also deserves special recognition. She fought so many battles on my behalf, ensuring that I had the accommodations I needed to thrive in a college environment. As my advocate and ally, she genuinely cared about my success. I’m incredibly thankful for her dedication and support. She holds a special place in my heart, and I love her so much for all she’s done.

I’m also so glad that I was able to live in a handicap-accessible dorm. That experience was such a game-changer for me. It taught me how to become an adult and manage life on my own terms. The independence I gained from living in that space was invaluable and played a huge role in shaping who I am today.

Now that I’ve crossed this finish line, it’s time to celebrate! I’m so proud of myself for everything I’ve accomplished. This has been a long, challenging journey, but I made it. That, in itself, is worth celebrating. Here’s to the next chapter and all the adventures that lie ahead! I can’t wait to see where life takes me next.

  5. Dear Megan, congratulations!! I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am of you and all you have achieved. You talk about the people who have supported you along your journey, but I would add for all of us who know you, that you have taught us as you went through your journey. You helped us to understand more about how to help others with complex needs to be successful. Don’t give anyone else too much credit, because you’re the one who had to do all of the work, and you did it. I hope that you have some special plans to celebrate with family and friends. Congratulations Megan, you make this world a better place.
